10/1/14 10:49 pm - NYCMidnight Flash Fiction Challenge Round 1 Results

http://www.nycmidnight.com/Competitions/FFC/1st%20Round/17.htm

The results are in for Round 1 of the NYCMidnight Flash Fiction Challenge. They only ranked the top 15 in each group, and I (unfortunately) was not one of the top 15. I am still in the running to participate in round 2 and beyond (depending on my future scores - round 1 & 2 scores are combined to determine eligibility for round 3). Round 2 begins at 11:59pm EST on October 3rd. I want to thank all of you who read my story, offered critique, and/or helped me make edits. If you haven't read my story yet, it is posted at http://phoenix-chan54.livejournal.com/364230.html.

Not too bad this week. I had a few days where I went over my calories, but I still managed to loose the weight I put on last week, and then some! (5 whole lbs lower than last week! WHUT WHUT!!!!!!) All in all, I'm satisfied. Also managed to keep up with not biting my nails! ^_^ My goal for next week is to be at 280 lbs or less. I'm considering my starting weight as 290 lbs, because that's where I was at when I unofficially started. If I meet my goal for next week, I will have lost a total of 10 pounds! Wish me luck! ^_^

EDIT: In 4 weeks, I've lost 1/2 an inch each in my bust and hips, and 4 inches in my waist! WOOHOO!!!!!

8/20/14 06:07 pm - NYCMidnight Flash Fiction Challenge 2014 - Round 1

I was going to wait until after the judging to post this, but that doesn't happen until end of September/beginning of October, and NYCMidnight encourages entrants to post their stories on the forums for other contestants to critique. I was in Group 17, and my challenge was Historical Fiction/An Interrogation Room/A Handwritten Invitation. Here is my story:

The Interrogation of Roger ShermanCollapse )

8/17/14 03:32 pm - Fitness Update - Week 4

Starting Measurements

I have a feeling this week didn't go well. I had a lot of junk food yesterday, and went WAY over my calories. Also, TMICollapse ) I have Roller Derby practice today, which burns a TON of calories, so hopefully that will make up for it. On the plus side, I haven't bitten my nails in a whole week! WOOHOO!!!!! Anyway, we'll see what the scale has to say tomorrow morning. Guess that's it for now. Peace! ^_^

EDIT: So yeah, I gained a little this past week, but I'm not upset, considering. I'll make up for it this week! ^_^

8/10/14 09:51 pm - Fitness Update: Week 3

Date: Sunday, August 10, 2014
Starting weight: 290.0 lbs
Current weight: 283.6 lbs
Starting Measurements
-Neck: 14 in.
-Bust: 48 in.
-Waist: 48 in.
-Hips: 60 in.

Things seem to be going well so far. It seems like Sundays are the days where I go over my calories (unless I go to Roller Derby practice, in which case I can't possibly go over - do you know how many calories 2 1/2 hours of skating burns? It's A LOT!!!!!). I'm epically failing as far as the no nail biting thing goes, but tomorrow is another day. I'm getting my 4 workouts a week in (usually a walk/run up and down my street), I'm still logging my food and staying under my 1600 net calorie goal for the most part, and I'm getting at least 4 servings of fruits/veggies in every week. I'd love to do more fruits/veggies, but I can only eat what I can get my hands on, and sometimes good produce is tough to find around here (especially when you have a picky mom doing the shopping - I LOVE YOU MOMMY!!!!!). Anyway, I guess that's it for now. Stay tuned for next week's update! ^_^

8/5/14 11:23 am - Fitness Update: Week 2

This should have been posted Sunday, but I forgot, so here it is:

Date: Sunday, August 03, 2014
Starting weight: 290.0 lbs
Current weight: 286.6 lbs
Starting Measurements
-Neck: 14 in.
-Bust: 48 in.
-Waist: 48 in.
-Hips: 60 in.

This past week went well, for the most part. I only went over my calories once this past week (I went to a movie on Sunday and got some extra snacks), and I got all my workouts and fruits/veggies in that I said I would. Here's to another great week this time around! ^_^

7/27/14 10:56 am - Fitnnes program OFFICIALLY begins NOW!!!!!

Over the last few weeks, I've kind of been following an exercise/food logging regime, and it's been going well. Since I've started doing this (and not very hardcore about it BTW), I've lost 3.6 lbs! WOOT! ^_^ Today, I'm starting it officially, so I thought I'd post exactly what it is that I'm going to be doing, both to keep myself accountable, and to keep those who want to know in the loop.

Starting Date: Sunday, July 27, 2014
Starting weight: 290.0 lbs
Current weight: 287.4 lbs
Starting Measurements
-Neck: 14 in.
-Bust: 48 in.
-Waist: 48 in.
-Hips: 60 in.

Program Guidelines
-------------------
-Log what I am eating on the MyFitnessPal smartphone app. Try to stay within the recommended caloric intake (1600 net calories)
-Log my workouts using the MapMyFitness, C25K, and UP smartphone apps.
-Log how much water I'm drinking in the MyFitnessPal and Water Your Body smartphone apps. Try to aim for the recommended oz. per day (currently 145.5 oz. - changes by body weight)
-Do the C25K program 3 times per week (Mon. Wed. and Fri.) and Roller Derby practice on Sunday. Rest on Tues. Thus. and Sat.)
-Continue to work on Roller Derby minimum skills. Use the Derby Lap Timer smartphone app to track 27/5 progress.
-(Not really fitness related, but) NO NAIL BITING!!!!!
-Keep track of medicines and vitamins (prescription and OTC) using the MediSafe smartphone app. Take as prescribed/needed
-Try to get in at least 3 servings of fruits/veggies per week. (More is better, but sometimes fresh produce is tough to get during certain seasons around here).
-Weigh self weekly (on Sunday morning). Take measurements monthly (last day of the month).
-Limit soda, alcohol and other not-good drinks. Stick to water, XS energy drinks (no more than 2 per day), coffee, tea, and water additives (crystal light, Nutrilite Twist Tubes, etc.). Sports drinks (Poweraide, Gatorade, etc.) when working out are fine, but not just to drink all the time.
NOTE: I'm not going to completely cut out soda, alcohol, or anything, but I don't want to start bad habits, such as drinking soda daily, or choosing something sugary and sodium-laced over water. Every so often, you have to let yourself have a taste of the things you like. Everything in moderation, right?

I think that's all of the specifications. Now, I will explain my reasons for doing this.

I'm not really super focused on loosing weight. Obviously, loosing weight would be a plus, but that is not my main goal. I am comfortable in my skin and with my body the way it is. What I want to do is build up my strength and endurance for roller derby, and I know that eating the right foods, and exercising will help with that. I also realize that my family history of weight related health issues (heart disease, diabetes, etc.) is very strong, and the risk increases as I get older, so I need to start getting healthy NOW! Also, I'm going to be getting married within the next 2 years. As awesome as it would be to look super hot in my wedding dress, again, that is only a "bonus" for me. I want to have kids someday, and I want to have a healthy pregnancy when that time comes. Also, once the kids are born, I want to be able to keep up with them and play with them. Anyway, those are the reasons I'm doing this. I'll continue to blog about my progress here. Wish me luck!

5/4/14 08:47 am - Serial Hypnocidist

This story idea popped into my head and I wanted to write it down before I forget.

My name is Dr. Ezra Blake. I am the world's leading expert on hypnotherapy. I also happen to be a Serial killer. I don't use guns or knives as my weapons. They are messy, unsophisticated, and easily traced. Instead, I use hypnotism. Allow me to explain. Many people come to me for help with all kinds of issues from substance abuse to weight loss to anger management to bad dreams. Most of them are easy for me to help. I Use variovs techniques to lure them into a suggestive state, then I implant behavior modifying suggestions into their unconscious mind. There are a select few patients who have much deeper and more severe issues. Issues that cannot simply be suggested out of their minds. For those people, I have developed a new technique. Rather than trying to cure the monsters within those individuals, I open their minds and make them recognize themselves for what they are: monsters who the world would be better off without. Once they come to see the truth about themselves, most take their own lives. If you look at it logically, I'm actually providing a service. These people can't cause harm to anyone else anymore, and they no longer have to suffer their demons. What I do makes The world a better place. Does that make me a monster as well? Perhaps it does, but who would you rather have on the streets: The man who kidnaps and rapes little kids because "he can't help himself" or me, the man that takes out the trash? It's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it, right?
